Nguvia duo advance to round 16 in beach v’ball competition

Nguvia Secondary School’s beach volleyball pair, Maria Rosita and Vanessa Ludah, have advanced to the round of 16 of the Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG25) volleyball competition.

Nguvia Secondary School is located on the Guadalcanal Plains neard GPPOL 2, Tetere area.

Competing in Pool D alongside Norman Palmer and Choiseul Bay PSS, the duo kicked off their campaign with a commanding 2-0 win over Norman Palmer on day one, followed by another thrilling straight-sets victory over Choiseul Bay on day two.

Team captain Maria Rosita expressed pride in their achievement, especially as it marks their debut appearance at the School Games.

“Having trained on a grass field and being completely new to this sport, we’re both thrilled to make it to the next stage,” she said.

Rosita also highlighted the challenges they faced, including a lack of formal coaching and limited knowledge of the sport’s rules.

“We’ve been training on our own for about three weeks, and while we’re still learning the rules as we play, I’m really proud of how far we’ve come. We’re now aiming for a podium finish for our school,” she added.

Nguvia will now face the runner-up of Pool C as the competition moves into the knockout stages.
