Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) senior operations manager and tournament director Jikoibau Matawalu has confirmed that they have completed the first round of review of the provincial competition format for next year.

“All representatives of teams and unions were present so if there are coaches who have issues with regards to the format; they need to go back to their representative who represented them in the review which we’ve just completed the last two weeks,” Matawalu said.

“Upon that review, we have agreed on the format and calendar for 2025.”

Meanwhile Matawalu said rugby fans can expect good weather and action packed Skipper Cup rugby semi-final action at Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday.

“These are the four best teams in the provincial competition this season, they are competing for a spot in the grand final next week,” he said.

“We have Nadroga in a rematch against Naitasiri as the game to look out for. Suva will be out for revenge against Nadi for their loss.”

Matawalu said they would be expecting a big crowd at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

“We also have the Under-20s where Suva will take on Naitasiri while Nadroga takes on neighbours Nadi,” he said.

“Admission is $15 flat so you sit anywhere you want to get to watch top local rugby.”

Matawalu said there is a possibility to shift the two U20 games to Ratu Cakobau ground two if weather is unfavourable.

“The move is to ensure that we maintain good turf for the senior games but we’re looking forward to good weather given the forecast that we’ve received,” he said.
