The Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens tournament will be from March 14-15 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

This was confirmed yesterday by Paradise Beverages general manager Mike Spencer during the sponsorship launch in Suva.

“This is the 11th tournament in the Fiji Bitter sevens series, in fact it is the second last tournament of the series,” he said.

Spencer said the final tournament would be the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens.

This year also marks the 38th year of sponsorship for the Nawaka tournament.

“For us, it is the second longest sporting sponsorship we have after Marist Sevens which is 49 years. It is much more than just a sponsorship, it has become a true partnership; being friends during all these years,” he said.

Spencer said during his 12 years of being in the company, he has seen the tournament grow in numbers, excitement and talent as a whole.

“We are honoured to be a part of it.

“I have always enjoyed being at the grounds. I believe it is the best grounds for sevens rugby and is always full of people,” he said.

Spencer said the tournament has always attracted spectators and rugby enthusiasts to stay and watch even when the games are late.

“I am looking forward to it. It will be a cracker of a tournament. Great to watch,” he added.

Nawaka Rugby Club president and tournament organiser Eparama Sailo also shared his excitement over the partnership.

“The Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens has always been a highlight on the rugby calendar, offering a stage for our local players to showcase their talent.

“With Fiji Bitter’s support, we’re set to deliver a tournament that brings our communities together and highlights the best of rugby,” he said.

He revealed the tournament would engage local communities through various roles, from hosting teams in village halls to providing meals and transport services. These initiatives not only enhance the tournament experience but also offer significant economic benefits.

The NRC over the years has produced top sevens rugby players like Sainivalati Laulau, Sakaraia Nacaka, Esala Labalaba, Apisai Nagata, Savenaca Aria, Manasa Qoro, Meli Rabonu, Taniela Nayate, Api Naevo, Norman Ligairi, Semisi Naevo, Meli Derenalagi and the list goes on.
