Jackson also indicated that although it is yet to be confirmed the Drua is hoping to play against the Provincial Union teams that compete in the Skipper Cup competition.

Negotiations are ongoing for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua to play all their pre-season games here.

Drua head coach Glen Jackson in an interview hinted that they are looking at doing things differently, this time around.

“No away (pre-season) games, good to be home and enjoy the environment,” he said.

However, Jackson indicated that talks to play the RFC Los Angeles rugby team here is likely to happen at the end of January.

Former Flying Fijian flanker and Rio Olympic Games gold medallist Semi Kunatani plays for the club in the American Major League Rugby competition.

Also, the Drua management, is still working on having an internal trial where the Drua players each other.

Jackson also indicated that although it is yet to be confirmed the Drua is hoping to play against the Provincial Union teams that compete in the Skipper Cup competition.

These includes Nadroga, Naitasiri, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Suva, Tailevu, Macuata, Namosi and Malolo.

“It’ll be good to play the Skipper Cup teams in Nadi. Also, spread the love around the country and get some good games here,” he added.

Jackson said the Drua are also looking at playing in the local sevens rugby tournaments and already they’ve confirmed playing in the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament, early next year. This is a chance for the Drua players to pit their skills, which is primarily in 15s rugby, against some of the most talented sevens’ players in the country.

Kadavu camp

Meanwhile, the Drua’s pre-season camp in Kadavu in December is starting to take shape.

Jackson along with Head of Athletic Performance Naca Cawanibuka are currently in Kadavu checking out all the camping sites. They presented their i-sevusevu at Tavuki Village on Tuesday before they headed to Vunisea.

“The focus (for Kadavu pre-season camp) is bringing the team together not only on the field but off the field as well,” Jackson said in an earlier interview.
