Need to Intesify Competition: Sorov

There is a need to boost local netball competitions this year.

This was the comment of Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki when asked of areas of improvement for the sport.

Sorovaki said the strengthening of tournaments in the country will aid in the picking of the wider training squad for any particular national team.

“We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into the high performance teams,” she said.

“This means ensuring pathways are clear from club competition to national competition.

“We need to ensure we are hosting and playing quality games which then allows a wider net for selection at all levels,” Sorovaki added.

She indicated that the grassroot developments will also be key and the federation would continue to work closely with all stakeholders.

“Our focus remains on assisting our districts in their work on the ground running games and capacity building for members.
Meanwhile the Fiji Pearls extended squads’ regroup and fitness testing will be held today at the HPU Gym in Laucala at 8:30am.

56 players have been named in the extended squad who’ll be guided by interim Pearls head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.
