The Blue Gas- sponsored Lilian Amazons will now travel to Napier, New Zealand, to take on their next assignment, which is to compete in the Duavata Sevens tournament on Saturday.

This is before they return for their first appearance at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.

The side continued their remarkable winning streak after taking out the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui over the weekend. The Amazons beat Fullsend, 22-17 in the Cup final.

Amazon manager Mere Gaunavou said the win marks another milestone for the young team.

“Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local tournaments,” she said.

Just weeks ago, the side won the Brimstone Sevens defeating the champion Seahawks, a club that includes current and former Fijiana reps.

Gaunavou thanked the team’s major sponsor, Blue Gas, associate sponsor Flame Tree and their families and supporters for their backing.

“The team’s success is rooted in its strong culture and rigorous training programmes. Most of these girls are new to rugby, so it takes immense sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, despite their young training age,” she added.
