The Naitasiri rugby side has set its sight in winning both the Inkk Farebrother Sullivan trophy and Skipper Cup this season.
This was the gist of President Ratu Peceli Rinakama interview with SUNsports yesterday.
Naitasiri sits third in the Skipper Cup points table with 29 points, first is Suva with 34 points and Nadroga is second on 31 points.
“We are looking forward to our Farebrother match against whoever is the holder of the Farebrother trophy,” Rinakama said.
“We have to treat all the teams the same, Lautoka is not new as they have shown their strength and experience wrestling the cup from Nadi last week after a lapse of three years.”
Rinakama said the coaching staff and management have prepared the team well for their Farebrother clash next week.
“It looks like it will be a good year for us, and our cabinet has been empty for a long time so we are aiming for the trophies especially the Farebrother and Skipper,” he said.
“We are looking forward to face either Lautoka or Suva next Saturday.”
Rinakama said it has been a challenge getting players for camp.
“We are trying to get players together. For the last few games, there was no camp as most of the players just have one day of bonding before their matches,” he said.
“We will make sure we give players enough time to prepare for the battle next week.”
Rinakama said they have the players to fill in the injured players’ spot.
“We are quite happy that the Naitasiri chief, Turaga na Qaranivalu Ratu Inoke Takiveikata is back,” he said.
“It will be the gift of the province to give him either the Farebrother or Skipper trophy.”
Rinakama said the players would have to work together in their Farebrother campaign.
“This is the vanua team and the players who are representing Naitasiri are not only from Naitasiri but from other parts of Fiji,” he said.
“We treat these players as ours, the motivation I often tell them is to look to the top of the mountain not to the valley.”
Rinakama hopes to take the team to the top of the mountain.
