After a 28-year drought, the Smart Security Services/Galgary-sponsored Nadi football side wants to land its hands on the Rooster Chicken/Scoop Ice Cream Battle of the Giants title.
The Green Machine is currently undefeated; the side will face Flick Suva at the HFC Bank stadium in Suva, this Saturday in the first semi-final match.
“We will be there to restore the lost pride for Nadi, 28 years is pretty too long,” said Nadi FA Board of Control executive Lawrence Kumar.
“The side performed well in the pool game to be the pool leaders. The side will be facing Suva in their home backyard and obviously will be an uphill battle but the team is working on that now,” Kumar said.
Kumar added the players are working on their combinations.
He has urged the fans to come out in numbers and support the Ame Votonui-captained side.
The side will be banking on their key players William Valentine to name a few.
Nadi last won the Battle of the Giants title in 1996 when the side defeated Tavua 3-1 in the final.
Meanwhile, Nadi lost to Nadroga 2-1 in their warm-up match at the Korovuto College ground on Sunday,
Nadi is in Group B with Labasa, Lautoka, and Navua while Group A has Suva, Rewa, Ba, and Nadroga.
In the other semi-final, Rewa faces Lautoka.
There will be a new winner this weekend after defending champions Labasa has been eliminated from the semi-finals.
