Seventeen (17)-year-old Kelera Mudunasoko of Natabua High School is all set to represent Fiji at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau at the end of this month.

She competed in the 50, 100, and 200 metres breaststroke events at the Fiji National School Swimming Championship.

The Baracudda Swimming Club swimmer has been training under coach Rosemary Rova and making steady progress in the lead-up to the games.

Originally from Levuka, Lakeba in Lau with maternal ties to Nadroga, Kelera balances her studies and training. She switched her focus from track to swimming earlier this year.

“It had been a tough few months, especially just trying to get my technique right,” she said.

Speaking to SUNSports Mudunasoko admitted that the transition wasn’t easy after competing in athletics during the first term of school.

“One of the hardest parts for me was just waking up early,” she said. “I usually had to get up at 5am to train, and it wasn’t easy. But I knew it’s what I needed to do.”

Despite the challenges, the she remained focused on improving her fitness and stroke technique.

“I was still learning and trying to get better. I knew I needed to keep working on my technique and fitness because I wanted to do well in Palau.”

She said representing Fiji was an honour and a responsibility.

“I wanted to do my best for my family, my school, and for Fiji,” she said.
