Mudaliar Claims Daylight Robbery After Losing to Singh

“The commission needs to review and then declare the correct winner. I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round, from round one to eight it was all my rounds.”

A disappointed Krishnil Mudaliar could not hold back his tears after he lost on a controversial points’ decision to homeboy Junior Binnu Singh for the WBF (World Boxing Foundation) Australasian featherweight title at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night.

“This is daylight robbery and this decision needs to be reviewed,” a tearful Mudaliar, the country’s former Fiji bantamweight and super featherweight champion said.

The lanky Suva boxer used his longer reach by continuously landing his jabs to keep Singh at bay.

“The commission needs to review and then declare the correct winner. I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round, from round one to eight it was all my rounds.”

The judges Fatu Tuimanono scored 77-72, Jone Loloma had it 78-72 and Rahul Sami 77-75, all in favour of Singh.

Before the fight, Mudaliar had been highlighting to the media the importance for the ring officials to be fair with their decisions.

“I’m ready to fight Binnu again for the title. The commission should order for a rematch.”

When approached Singh said his next plan is to fight for an overseas opponent.

He indicated the win was dedicated to his late grandfather Jaswant Singh who passed away last week Friday.

“He was my dad’s father and he was not a boxer but a great motivator in my career. This win is for him,” he said.

Singh said the fight went according to their game plan and he also indicated that Mudaliar was a tough boxer.

Singh has confirmed that he would be fighting in the November programme under the Bluewater Boxing Promotion.
