The Mount Masada 24–7 McDonalds Fiji Coral coast 7s cup final win against the New Zealand 7s women’s development has motivated the players to perform well in the Perth 7s tournament this weekend.
This was the gist of Fijiana player Adimereani Rogosau interview with SUNsports last Saturday.
“We sacrificed our holidays, stayed in camp and kept on training while other people enjoyed the festive season,” she said.
“The team is a different team altogether, winning the Coral coast 7s tournament is a big boost for us. Hopefully we’ll go up step up again in the upcoming Perth 7s tournament apart from this tournament.”
Rogosau said the New Zealand 7s women’s team always provide stiff competition when they play against each other.
“They are always a difficult team to beat especially during the SVNS series we’ve never won any match against them,” she said.
“This is a good platform and to win the game against them today was a big achievement for me and us as a team.”
Rogosau said their win against the New Zealand has boosted the team’s morale to perform better in the SVNS series.
Fiji Rugby High Performance Manager for women’s rugby Alana Thomas said Fijiana 7s team consists of great depth in terms of talent pool.
“We’re looking at the way that both Mt Masada team and the Bilo Bar team has played, we’re going to see some really good rugby out of this Fijiana players,” she said.
“These girls play and dominate that game as it’s something we haven’t seen in Dubai and Cape Town 7s tournament so I’m really excited for Perth.”
Thomas said she was pleased with rookie Vika Nakacia performance in the final.
“She just a hard ball runner, a hard worker and I think she’s going to have a long career if we can keep her going,” she said.
“We won the Oceania rugby 7s tournament late last year and we had 21 girls debuting for Fiji on the international stage. To see the hard work that these girls put in the last six weeks to win this tournament beens outstanding.”
