The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) officially opened its Annual Planning Conference starting today Monday, 19th May 2025, at the Honiara Hotel.
The conferencebrings together ministry leaders, technical officers, and stakeholders to align strategies for the coming year under the theme: “Transforming Agriculture for Economic Growth.”
The five-day conference, running from May 19 to 23, focuses on reviewing key policies, strategic planning, institutional effectiveness, and strengthening implementation mechanisms across all departments of the Ministry.
MAL Hon. Minister Franklyn Derek Wasi is opening the conference with the keynote address emphasizing the vital role of transforming agriculture in national development and economic resilience.
Each day of the conference addresses a specific theme, including:
- Policy Review and Strategic Alignment
- Budgeting and Planning for 2026
- Governance and Institutional Effectiveness
- Implementation Readiness
- Consolidation and Way Forward
Sessions include department work plan reviews, discussions on the Agriculture Sector Development Policy, E-Agriculture Strategy, donor project updates, restructuring proposals, and finalisation of the 2026 budget strategy and operational plan.
The conference will conclude on Friday with the endorsement of conference resolutions and a formal closing dinner to recognise the collaborative work of all participants.
