Minister Vave attends UNESCO Forum on Global Sports Integrity – Solomon Star News

Minister of Home Affairs Isikeli Vave is in Paris attending the UNESCO 10th Conference of Parties on the International Convention on Anti-Doping in Sport. 

As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Convention, the Hon Minister attended the Forum on Global Sports Integrity on 18 October 2025. 

This presented opportunities to engage in discussion on:

  • Education and awareness of anti-doping at all levels with a focus on values of integrity, ethics, respect and fair play being promoted through schools and communities.
  • Research to coordinate with the World Anti-Doping Agency, to focus on marginalised groups, countries and regions and anti-doping as a public health issue.
  • Legal obligations for implementing the Convention as an international treaty ratified by 192 countries.
  • Future challenges including the Enhanced Games to take place in the USA in 2026 and gene manipulation.
  • Pharmacopoeia identifying various medicines, including traditional, their effects and directions for use.

The Hon Minister also took the opportunity to meet Mr Hari Ranjan Rao, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Sports at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India. 

This meeting opened avenues to collaboration in education and research through the National Sports University and other private universities in India, support potentially in football as well as the National Centre for Sports Science and Research to promote sports science, medicine and technology with the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport. 

Discussions will continue to develop a plan for this cooperation with the Government of India.
