Solomon Islands was represented at the Fourteenth Conference of the Pacific Community (SPC), held on 17 October 2025 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka attended the conference which was based on the theme “Pasifiki: Rooted in Heritage, Honouring the Past, United for a Resilient Future.”

The event brought together leaders and representatives from across the Pacific to celebrate regional achievements, reaffirm solidarity, and set priorities for sustainable development under the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

As SPC’s highest governing body, the Conference meets biennially following the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA).

This year’s meeting was especially significant, marking a leadership transition as Dr Paula Vivili was appointed Director-General of SPC, succeeding Dr Stuart Minchin, who served with distinction over the past six years.

In his statement, Hon. Agovaka called for a transformative and innovative approach to regional development, highlighting partnership, climate resilience, and innovation as key drivers of the Pacific’s sustainable future.

They also emphasized equitable service delivery for smaller island members, stronger subregional representation, and increased support for youth, culture, and gender equality initiatives.

The meeting concluded with the announcement that the 15th Conference of the Pacific Community will be hosted by the Federated States of Micronesia in 2027.

Hon. Agovaka extended his gratitude to the Government and people of Tonga for their warm hospitality and commended SPC’s continued leadership in promoting Pacific regionalism and advancing a resilient and united Blue Pacific.
