THE Melanesia Law Ministers will present their collective issues during the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting (CLMM) to be held in Fiji from 9 to 12 February 2026.
Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Hon. Clezy Rore, confirmed this to Solomon Star following a talanoa session held during the Justice Agencies Dialogue at the Heritage Park Hotel on Thursday.
Minister Rore said Fiji currently chairs the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), and therefore, Fiji’s Minister of Justice and Acting Attorney General, Hon. Siromi Turaga, will present the agenda on behalf of Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, and Solomon Islands at the upcoming meeting.
The CLMM will be convened under the theme:
“Anchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future.”
Hosted by the Government of the Republic of Fiji, the CLMM is one of the largest international gatherings of law ministers and attorneys general focusing on legal cooperation among Commonwealth nations.
During the meeting, ministers will review progress in advancing access to justice and discuss practical steps to remove barriers that prevent people from having their legal needs met.
The agenda will cover a broad range of issues, including:
- The role of technology in justice delivery,
- Model contracts for natural resource governance,
- Legal reform tools, and
- Stronger protections for fundamental rights.
Outcomes from the meeting will guide the Commonwealth Secretariat’s ongoing work under the Declaration on Access to Justice and help shape the agenda for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda.
Ahead of the CLMM, a series of preparatory events will be held, including meetings of Senior Officials of Commonwealth Law Ministries.
The virtual meeting will take place on 16 October 2025, followed by an in-person session in Fiji on 9 February 2026. Both meetings will be chaired by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Fiji.
