To lead his country against the Flying Fijians in tonight’s Pacific Nations Cup opener at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, is an honour.
That is the view of Manu Samoa captain Theo McFarland during an interview with SUNsports after their captain’s rugby yesterday:
The 28-year-old lock who plays for Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership said he is aware of the huge task ahead of him but at the same time he appreciates the opportunity.
McFarland plays alongside Flying Fijians prop Eroni Mawi who is on the reserve bench.
“The Flying Fijians are a very good side,” he said.
“We are a young side but we will look at our defence especially coming up against Fiji. We are looking at areas where we can exploit and use against our Fijian brothers.”
Samoa head coach Mahoni Schwalger labels McFarland as a young captain and faces a big test today at how he leads his team into battle.
“He is doing really well. Theo is handling the captaincy really well, giving pointers and leading his pack,” he added.
