Pacific Games gold medallist Hansel McCaig has set a new national record in the men’s 100 metres medley.
He swam a time 57.31 seconds at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary last week.
McCaig was one of Fiji’s three swimmers who participated at the World Champs; Marseleima Moss and U.S-based David Young were the other two.
Young also set a national record in the men’s 50m butterfly in Budapest.
Meanwhile Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito and Eugene Panuve presented their strategic plan to World Aquatics for the next two quadrennial.
It was of a nine months collaboration with the International Federation in a mentorship programme to align Fiji with the direction the world body is moving.
A workshop was conducted with Fiji Swimming stakeholders in Fiji to refine the visions, missions, and values for the national swimming body.
Fiji Swimming successfully completed their deliverables to World Aquatics.
The programme presented them with challenges and valuable insights on how to effectively plan and collaborate with other team members.
It also gave insights into the similarities in challenges faced by other national federations regardless of their size or structure.
“We extend our gratitude to the previous board for laying the groundwork and to the current board for guiding the vision of Fiji Swimming,” Fiji Swimming statement said.
“Our goal is to work collectively to prioritise our athletes above all else.”
