Despite not wining any medals at last year’s Fiji Finals Sulie-Tanya Matea did not give up.
Matea returned to this years Games and won silver in the intermediate girls shot-put.
She threw a distance of 11.20 metres.
The Year 12 student of Swami Viveknanda College, Nadi hails from Tavuki, Nacolase, Kadavu and shares maternal links to Mualevu, Vanuabalavu, Lau.
“I want to dedicate my medal to my late grandfather Sovea Tabua who passed away recently.
“This is also for my family, coaches and my school.
“Last year I did not achieve anything so this year I switched my mindset,” she said.
“I tried to better myself spiritually and mentally.
“I did more technical training and strengthening.”
Matea is coached by former Marist Brothers High School champion thrower Mustafa Fall.
“It’s better for me to go to smaller competitions and take one step at a step.”
Matea wants to be a marine biologist or a veterinarian in future.
