The main suspect in the New Year stoning of police vehicles at the Tasahe Green-tank area has been arrested.

This follows arrests of other suspects in the incident, a statement by the RSIPF (police) yesterday said.

“The prime suspect in connection with the stoning of a police vehicle on New Year’s Eve at the Tasahe-Green tank area was arrested.

“Other suspects were also arrested for other related offenses at the Tasahe-Green tank area.

“The investigation into the Henderson and Naha police vehicle stoning during New Year’s Eve is still under police investigation,” the RSIPF Facebook statement said.

On January 1, police reported that three of its vehicles had been pelted with stones during its operations around the capital to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations.

Naha Police responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence in Ferakusia in east Honiara when a suspect stoned its left mirror, the police Facebook statement said.

“A police officer also sustained an injury on his back when attending to a report at Ferakusia, but the officer is in stable condition.

“The suspect of domestic violence escaped upon police arrival and stoned the police vehicle.

“The vehicles were on patrol and attended to reports in different locations in Honiara and Guadalcanal.

“Two vehicles owned by Guadalcanal police and Honiara City Police were badly damaged with their rear screens,” the police statement said.
