Macuata men’s rugby team has set its sights on staying in next year’s Skipper Cup competition.
The Macuata men’s rugby team has set their goals for the 2025 season.
This is the gist of MRU’s vice-president, Jioji Vuakaca’s interview with SUNsports on Wednesday.
“This is because we believe that on the day we can beat any team,” he said.
Vuakaca said this season they had to dig deep to avoid being relegated from the Skipper Cup. He said they had to struggle to upset Tailevu at Labasa’s Subrail Park.
He said they want to put on a consistent performance in next season’s Skipper Cup competition.
Vuakaca said they want to achieve a perfect record at home to set the platform for a good season.
“The Macuata Rugby Union club competition had been competitive with some players identified and are now in the extended pool,” he said.
Vuakaca said their players showed last year they could compete and challenge the big teams.
He said the pre-season was crucial to having a solid preparation for the new season.
“The players must be cautious of their diet as we go through the festive season.”
Meanwhile, the Macuata women’s rugby team is aiming to win the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup next season. This was after the side bowed out of the Ranadi Cup semi-final against Kadavu.
