Important issues

I am very concerned about the silence around two important issues —the case of Barbara Malimali and the claims made against the Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde. These are not small matters. They affect the justice system of our country, and people deserve to know what is happening. But sadly, we have heard nothing from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), even after the DPP wrote a letter to them. Why no reply? Why is nothing being said? And what about our Prime Minister? Why is he also quiet? The people of Fiji need answers. When leaders stay silent, it creates doubt and confusion. We start to wonder if something is being hidden. We ask the JSC, the prime minister, and other leaders to speak up. Tell the public what is going on. We need honesty, fairness, and action. Ravneel Sharma, Navua

Trump and daylight

President Trump wants to bring more of America into the daylight so that families will have more fun time in the sun, but will this make them happier? There are some advantages for him, with more time for golf, more time to see his cheering crowds and extra sunlight to give him that glowing skin, Orange just like the sun. There may be disadvantages for many, the depressing drive to work in the dark, although that won’t affect him as the hallways of the White House should be well lit. It will also upset the political hacks that work best in the dark corners of politics. Let the light shine, but the God given light, not that of a false god. Dennis Fitzgerald, Melbourne, Australia

Public toilets in towns

The pertinent question here is, “has Sunil Kumar ever visited Nadi Town Council’s health department and complained about public toilets? Has he ever mentioned to health inspectors that he would recourse to higher authorities or even the minister responsible if no action is taken on the matter? As for Rajend Naidu’s LTE, it’s more to do with exaggeration to diminish Nadi Town, than expression of genuine concern or empathy. Rakesh Chand Sharmal, Nadi

Minimum wage

Who is policing the implementation of the gazetted minimum wage? Which companies are exempted as the majority workers we speak to say they are still earning $2.60, $3.40, $4.05 an hour and no increase to $5 with effect from April 1 2025. The Cabinet ministers’ salary increase took 20 minutes to approve by vote in Parliament and Minister of Finance Biman Prasad was fast the next day to see all of them were paid accordingly asap and they are all laughing all the way to the bank every day. Can’t Biman Prasad and Agni Deo Singh see to that all registered companies comply instantly please. Tukai Lagonilakeba, Nadi

Road condition

THE road condition is becoming a problem for many motorist as they try to avoid big potholes to avoid damage to their vehicles which cost owners thousand of dollars. Vehicle owners pay wheel tax, road user levy and other tax but our road conditions have remained the same for many years now. Blaming past government doesn’t help anyone and the Government should do the right thing of getting things done. The blame game should stop and proper planning and repair should start without delay. If US president can change things overnight than our Fijian Government can do better in a four-year term. Narayan Reddy, Lautoka

GCC submission

As an indigenous Fijian, I believe the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) should also make a formal submission to the Electoral Law Reform Commission (ELRC) on behalf of all Indigenous Fijians and at the same time all other leaders of indigenous communities in Fiji should do likewise. However, that should not stop individual submissions — that should allow both voices to be heard at the top hierarchy and at grassroot level. MELI BOGILEKA, Natabua, Lautoka
