Newcomers Veiyasana Pro-viders has been crowned Fiji Sports Council Under-20 sevens champions (Suva leg) after defeating Ca’au 12-10 on Saturday.

The Sireli Bobo coached- make-shift side defied all odds to upset the tournament favourites on the way to win to the Cup final.

Speaking to SUNsports, Bobo said the competition was tough and they are grateful for the experience.

“The boys played beyond what I had expected,” Bobo said.

“We had a full strength side just a few hours before the tournament kicked-off.”

Bobo, who is also the Nadroga co-coach in the Skipper Cup competition, said Veiyasana Providers was made up of players from Ba River, High Performance Unit, Queen Victoria School and Nabua.

He said the team was formed because most players who wanted to play were not given the opportu-nity to do so.

“We came here with a goal and that is to win. Slaying the giants is what this team is known for and I believe we did just that,” he said.

They upset QVSOB in the quar-terfinals 14-12 and took out Village Boys 12-7 in a nail biting semi-final.
Veiyasana Providers proved too classy as the players’ combinations began to gel, as the tournament progresses.

“The series provides a platform for young ruggers to show what they can do, it always gives exposure to our rising stars,” he said.

Bobo also acknowledged the participation of other U20 teams in the series.

“Next year’s competition will be bigger with more teams coming in,” he added.
