Late Rini repatriated to Marovo

The body of the late statesman and former Prime Minister, Hon. Snyder Rini left Honiara for his home village of Telina, Marovo, Western Province this morning, Tuesday 12th August 2025.

His casket was transported onboard the MV Auki Express which departed around 8:45am bound for Marovo.

Nearly 200 members of the immediate family, relatives, friends and government officials also joined the trip.

Given the fine weather, the MV Auki Express is expected to arrive at Telina after lunch, Tuesday.

Government on Monday accorded the former Member of Parliament for Marovo a state funeral.

A lying-in-state ceremony was held at Parliament early Monday followed by a funeral service at Maranatha Hall, East Honiara.

Late Rini spent Monday night at his home residence before being escorted to the boat early Tuesday morning.

Late Rini will spend this evening with his people in Marovo to allow everyone to pay their respect for the last time.

A brief burial service will be held Wednesday morning before the body of the late statesman is laid to rest.

Late Hon. Rini who is also a chief has served the people of the Marovo constituency for over 20 years.
