The business community in Labasa has pledged their support in hosting next year’s Rooster Chicken/ Scoop Ice Cream Fiji Football Association’s (Fiji FA) sanctioned Battle of the Giants tournament at Subrail Park.

This was after Fiji FA chief executive Mohammed Yusuf confirmed to SUNsports that next year’s B.O.G would be hosted by Labasa.

Macuata Tourism Association president, Paul Jaduram welcomed the decision and commended Fiji FA for placing their trust on the Labasa Town Council to host the tournament.

Jaduram said the tournament would help generate economic activity for the town.

He said Labasa has a lot of sports tourism potential but it requires collaboration from the entire business community.

“We have ample hotel accommodation in Labasa so we can cater for visitors from Viti Levu,” he said.

Labasa football men’s coach, Ravneel Pratap, believed this would be an ideal opportunity to reclaim the title which they lost this year.

Labasa won the B.O.G title in 2023.

Pratap said the council must improve the ground to a high standard to ensure quality football could be displayed.

Labasa hosted the Digicel Fiji FACT tournament early this year and had a massive turnout of speectators.

He said the football fraternity in the North would definitely welcome the news.

“We as the host will again have to play with pressure to win at home but the excitement to win games at home is always great,” Pratap said.

In preparation for the Fiji FACT, the LTC installed new floodlights worth over $40,000.
