Labasa sits on second position in pool B with four points and a draw will see them qualify for the semi-final in front of Rewa.
The Extra Supermarket Labasa football side adopted a high ball strategy to contain Rewa and held them to a 0-0 draw in the Digicel Fiji Fact tournament in Labasa.
This was the gist of the Labasa coach, Ravneel Pratap, who said they knew Rewa would play a possession based ground ball game.
Both, Labasa striker Christopher Wasasala and Rewa’s Patrick Joseph missed penalties during the game.
Pratap was satisfied with the one point from the draw, however, understood the frustration of fans to see a win.
Thousands packed Subrail Park in Labasa with majority fans in their traditional red and white strips supporting the host.
Half-time: Labasa 0- 0 Rewa
Young Labasa forward, Eparama Moraica, created scoring chances, but was marked well by Rewa.
Pratap said they were able to match Rewa’s game intensity.
The desperation was high as both teams wanted to boost their semi-final chances.
“Rewa wanted to win and we wanted to win as well”.
“Rewa likes to keep the ball and move the ball,” he said.
Pratap said they used this tactic to disrupt their ball players and attacking movement plays.
The responsibility has been laid on the shoulders of strikers, Doidoi and Wasasala, to be precise infront of goal against Navua tomorrow.
“Our players performed their hearts out and sorry we can’t live up to the expectations of the fans today”.
Pratap when approached said defensively perfected their game.
The Babasiga Lions are yet to concede a single goal with wins against Nasinu 2-0 and now a draw.
