Kia has recalled almost 4000 large SUVs due to faulty indicators that could cause an accident.
The brand says the issue affects 2022 Sorento models and applies to petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid models.
The Department of Infrastructure and Transport, which ordered the recall, says a software issue could cause the turn signals to malfunction.
“If the turn indicators do not illuminate as intended, other road users would be unable to identify if the vehicle is turning. This could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the recall notice says.
Owners of affected vehicles should contact a Kia dealer immediately and book an appointment to have the fault rectified free of charge.
A Kia spokeswoman said there were no reports of the problem causing an accident in Australia.
Customers can call Kia customer service on 131 542 or email customer_service@kia.com.au.
The seven-seat Sorento is one of the best selling large SUVs in the country and has been instrumental in Kia’s rapid rise up the sales charts in recent years.
The South Korean brand is Australia’s fifth best selling brand, recently overtaking sister company Hyundai.
The recall is the second involving popular vehicles this week, after Ford recalled its Ranger ute and Everest 4WD over a software issue that led to the car shifting into park at low speeds.
