Kadavu Stallions women’s 7s team is using the Nataleira 7s tournament as a build-up to prepare themselves for the ANZ Marama Championship next year.
Speaking to SUNsports, co-captain Sereima Rauqe said the tournament has been a great experience so far.
“I’m grateful to God for the talent in this team, we were initially short in numbers, I had to call few other players who were able to participate.
“Most of the players had their preparations in different locations before this tournament,” she said.
Rauqe added the team will need to improve their support play in their next match.
“This is basically our off-season preparation for the Marama Championship next season.
“I always advised the players never to lose hope and trust each other on the field,” Rauqe said.
She said their bond is the teams biggest strength going forward.
“This group of players do not want to split away from each other that is why we are also playing together in the 7s tournament.
“The target for us is to get included in the Fijian Drua women’s extended sqaud,”she said.
Rauqe said most of their players are in the High Performance Unit.
She expressed her gratitude to the people of Kadavu for supporting and accepting the team even though most of the players are from Nadroga.
“I want to acknowledge Minister of Women and Children Lynda Tabuya for supporting us as the President of Kadavu Rugby.”
