We’re getting our first results coming through!
It was just before midnight when Neel Erande received an email with his HSC results. The 17-year-old napped in the afternoon so he could stay awake and opened the email surrounded by family while on holiday in India.
“The real journey for me is the improvement in marks,” Neel said, adding that from year 11 he’s seen “quite a massive improvement.”

The St Mark’s Coptic Orthodox College student, from Sydney’s southwest, received a band 5 in economics, geography, business studies and standard English, and received a band 6 in standard maths.
His pre-exam rituals involved putting his school uniform on as early as possible, avoiding looking at any notes and trying to clear his mind.
“I would always listen to music before an exam … I would have a song stuck in my head and sing it over and over again,” he said. Coldplay was one band on constant rotation.
He is hoping the marks will get him into bachelor of arts at the University of Sydney, majoring in economics so he can study economic policy and go into the public sector. But, he won’t be staying up any longer to see what his ATAR is. That will have to wait until morning.
