Junior Stavross Malana, better known by his stage name ‘Ghemu’ was amongst Solomon Islands music artists who performed at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium over the weekend as part of the Asian Story & Pacific Story 50th Anniversary celebration in Port Moresby.
Speaking to Solomon Star after his performance on Saturday night, the 25-year-old singer from Western Province shared that it was his first time performing outside of the country, a milestone he said has been both memorable and educational.
“This is really my first time performing outside of Solomon Islands and in such a huge venue like the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium and I am so grateful for this opportunity.
“Thank you to everyone who turned out tonight, it is indeed a moment I will never forget”, he said.
He added that performing abroad has been a completely new experience, offering valuable lessons especially from seasoned groups like the Onetox who also performed in the show.
“The feeling of performing outside is totally different and is also a huge learning curve especially getting to learn from our very own Onetox Band, who have been here many times before and also our other senior musicians.”
Ghemu entered the local music scene in 2021 gaining popularity with his hit singles “No likem me” and “Tek bak lo West”.
He stated performing in PNG has marked a huge milestone in his musical journey and hopes for more similar opportunities in the future.
Other Solomon Islands artists who also took part in the celebrations include Point of View (POV) Band, Jammin, Ramo, Kool Rootz and Onetox.
