ISSUES affecting youths in the country have been highlighted during Friday’s Kings Birthday celebration at the National Stadium in Honiara.
Hundreds turned up to witness the celebration.
It featured a march past parade, speech by the Governor General (GG) Sir Reverend David Tiva Kapu, presentation of the honours and awards, pardoning of an inmate and entertainment.
A good number ministers turned up along with government officials and the member of the diplomatic codes.
In his power powerful address during occasion H.E Sir Rev. Kapu gave prominence on youth challenges that continue to impact many families, communities and the country.
He said, action must be done to address the issues such as high crime rates, unemployment, Urban drift, lack of vocational training opportunities, limited access to quality education, substance abuse, mental health issue, lack of civic engagement and leadership pathways and many more.
With Solomon Islands have an increasing rate of birth rate and increase population, issues affecting youths in the country must be addressed wholistically.
During the ceremony a number of new awards were announced that will be presented next year.
While 15 awards were presented to recipients who were announced last year.
For the pardoning ceremony, an inmate who served lifetime for murder was pardoned and set free by the GG.
The occasion concluded with entertainment provided by the RSIPF band with the support of the Australian brass band.
Members of the crowd enjoyed the 14 minutes show.
Invited guests then joined the GG for the birthday reception at the Government House.
