Fujian Province pledges to offer scholarships to West

Fujian Province in China pledges to offer more scholarships to young people from Western Province.

This following a commitment made during a one-day meeting between Fujian officials and the Western Provincial Government (WPG) in Gizo on Tuesday.

Hon. Li Dejin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People’s Congress said, education is a crucial area of cooperation and encouraged more young Solomon Islanders to take up the opportunity to study in Fujian.

“The initiative aims to strengthen the friendship and deepen the educational exchange between Fujian and Western Province.

“It is expected that more students will be able to pursue higher education in various fields in China under this expanded scholarship program,” Hon. Li said.

Provincial leaders welcomed the announcement, stating that it would provide invaluable opportunities for the youth of Western Province to gain international experience and skills to contribute to the development of their communities upon their return.

Premier of Western Province, Billy Veo, warmly welcomed the commitment from Fujian Province, describing it as a; “timely and valuable investment” in the future of the province’s young people.

“We are truly grateful for this generous support from our friends in Fujian. These scholarships will open doors for our young people to gain world-class education and bring back knowledge and skills that will help develop our communities,” Premier Veo said.

He also reaffirmed Western Province’s commitment to strengthening ties with Fujian through education, cultural, and economic exchanges.
