Apia, Samoa – 01 July 2025: The latest update by the Office of the Electoral Commissioner indicates that there are still about 20,000 voters yet to be registered with three more days to closing of registrations on 4 July.

As of last Saturday, a substantial number of 24,909 or 21% of unregistered voters remained.

While the office is happy that people have finally come in to be registered, still the number of unregistered voters remains high.

The current number of registered voters now sits at 92,316 and the recorded number of people that should vote in the upcoming general election is 117,225.

The districts with the highest number of unregistered are Faleata and Vaimauga and the office hopes to remedy this within the next four days before registration is officially closed at the end of this week.

The OEC have been going around the country with their awareness program and registering voters at their districts with the hope to meet the number come election next year and not many people have utilised it.

However, with the political crisis that moved the general election forward to 29 August, the high number of unregistered voters have been scrambling to register to avoid a fine of $2000.

The OEC announced the campaign period to start from 14 July 2025 and closes at 12:00pm 24 August 2025.

Candidates’ nomination will start run 7 July – 12 July from 8:00am-12:00pm.

Online registration portal will be closed on Wednesday 2 July 2025 at 4:00pm.
