“I was a big fan of rugby players that’s why I wanted to play rugby. Reijieli Daveua was one player I admire the way she played.

Alfreda Fisher is paving the way for girls from her island home of Qamea, Cakaudrove.
She was the first woman from her village to don the national jumper when she debuted for the Vodafone Fijiana side during the WXV 3 competition in September last year.
This year the blindside flanker has added the Drua jersey to her collection; her goal is to be named in this year’s Rugby World Cup team to England in August.
The 20-year-old Togo lass has been impressive for the Drua women’s side the past two matches in the Super W competition.
She is grateful to the coaching staff to be named in this year’s Super W squad which gives her the much needed game time to prove her selection.
However, the rookie indicated she needed a lot of improvement in her position.
Fisher started playing 15s rugby since secondary school during the Raluve competition. She attended Vuanicau Primary School before completing her secondary school studies at Bucalevu Secondary School in Taveuni.
“After playing sevens for Army at the Nawaka 7s two years I joined the national sevens squad. Following that I was recruited in the Fiji Navy and played for Suva Under-20 in the Marama competition.

“I want to improve my ball carry and handling. Avoid walking in my job as a flanker to cover for the backs and forwards.”
Despite being a member of the Fiji Navy she wants to pursue a career at the Fiji Maritime Academy to be a sea captain.
“It has been quite a journey; I’m learning a lot from senior players on and off the field and the importance to main discipline at all times.”
Fisher is named on the bench in today’s match against Brumbies women at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.
The match kicks off at 3:35pm.
