“Our agreement of three years finished in November and they (Digicel Fiji) have opted not to seek any extension,” he said.
There will be a new sponsor for this year’s Fiji Football Association’s (Fiji FA) National League, Fiji FACT tournament, women and all the age group league competitions.
This followed the end of the $2.58 million three-year deal with Digicel Fiji, which was signed in 2021. The sponsorship expired at the end of last year.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf confirmed yesterday an official announcement on the new sponsors would be made soon.
“Our agreement of three years finished in November and they (Digicel Fiji) have opted not to seek any extension,” he said.
Yusuf thanked Digicel Fiji and indicated that Fiji FA enjoyed their three-year partnership.
“We will make an official announcement as soon as possible as work is in progress to secure a sponsor for both men’s and women’s leagues,” he said.
“This could signal a new era as we intend to have sponsors for the women’s and men’s game.
Yusuf indicated that Fiji FA’s focus is currently on next month’s Pillay Garment’s Champion versus Champions (CvC) series.
When contacted Digicel Fiji CEO, Farid Mohammed, said; “Digicel Fiji is proud to have been the major sponsor of Fiji FA for the past four years.
“We value the partnership we’ve had and the opportunity to support and help in the growth of football talent in the country.
“As our sponsorship period has come to a close, we have made a decision not to renew as the major sponsor and we are currently in discussions with the Fiji FA on how we can continue this partnership going forward.”
The national league competitions will kick-off in mid- February.
