05 August 2025 – The FAST Party is using its current campaign platform and scheduled meetings with the villages and constituencies, to push through the health message of prevention against the rising spread of dengue fever.
Yesterday morning, the party launched its public appeal for the communities to work together to clear breeding places for mosquitoes that bite and spread the virus that has already taken five young lives.
The Party Leader launched its public appeal before spreading its health message for villages to act together and the former Director General of Health who is a candidate for the elections, is talking to the villages about preventative measures against rising dengue fever cases.
The health campaign started at the Aana 4 constituency and Samatau and Falelatai yesterday and the party also donated mosquito coils, mosquito nets and mortein sprays to families to protect against the spread of the virus.
Aiono Dr Alec Ekeroma encouraged the villagers to act decisively now in order to avoid further deaths.
“This is a call to our communities to act to clear surroundings where mosquitoes breed so we can break the trend.”
He also called on families to use mosquito nets and apply preventative measures so as not to be bitten by mosquitoes carrying the virus and for parents to see the doctor and seek medical assistance as soon as a child show signs of dengue fever.
While the fever has been in Samoa for over a year, the cases rose sharply over the last few months and has already claimed five young lives – two of whom are brothers.
