Exciting women’s rugby 7s clashes 

In an exciting display of rugby, Our National Women’s 7s had a series of thrilling friendly matches over the weekend with the visitors New South Wales (NSW), Sydney-based rugby club, the Briars Women’s Rugby.

The friendlies were held at Town Ground Rugby Stadium on Saturday.

With the series of friendly matches, the Solomon Islands National women’s 7s team has three highly contested matches with the Briars.

Of the matches the national side picked 1 win and 2 loses in three matches played.

Briars team took the lead in 2 contested games and our National women 7s Team picked up on the last game defeating the Briars.

Both teams have showcased their skills and sportsmanship in a fantastic event in front of the local rugby fans.

The day also featured an equally competitive series of friendly matches between Our National Men’s 7s team and Usotasi Men’s 7s team.

According to SIRUF, the series of friendly matches was a testament to the growing prominence of rugby in the country and served as an excellent opportunity for teams to prepare for upcoming international competitions.

These series of rugby 7s friendlies is part of the weeklong Australia Defence Force (ADF) training program for Rugby 7s, Rugby league and volleyball for coaches and local referees held at the Solomon Islands National Institution of Sport (SINIS) held from Monday 7th October to Saturday 12th October.  

With the series of friendlies being held successfully on Saturday the ADF sport training program have been concluded with a special presentation ceremony, where certificates were awarded to coaches and match officials in recognition of their training last week with the ADF team, these trainings will contribute greatly to the growth of rugby in the Solomon Islands.

Solomon Rugby in a statement thanked the  Australian Defence Force Sports in partnering with Rugby Australia and Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport – SINIS to make this event possible.
