A former political figure has appeared in court this morning after an alleged incident at a central Dunedin bar last week.
The man appeared in Dunedin District Court before Judge David Robinson today, charged with assault, escaping the lawful custody of a police officer, and behaving in a disorderly manner
in circumstances likely to cause violence to start.
All three charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred at a central Dunedin bar on November 27.
Defence sought interim name suppression, raising concerns about the impact on the man’s family.
The judge granted interim suppression to preserve the position until a formal application can be filed.
