Giants were dethroned, and new champions born, at this year’s NBS Men’s Basketball finals.
The Eagles knocked the three-time champion Checkers off the pedestal and claimed the trophy this year.
It was a hard fought win, with the point difference at 9, 13 and 14 in the first three quarters.
But a second wind saw the Eagles widen the gap to 23 at the eleventh hour, winning the game 106 to 83.
Eagles player Marc Juntilla said this year’s grade had been a learning experience for the whole team.
“You win some, you lose some, you’ve just got to make the most of every play,” he said.
“It’s always a team effort, basketball’s a team effort.”
The team are hoping to play again next season and go for a second title.
“Thanks to Summer [Anderson] for hosting the league this year,” Juntilla said.
“And thanks to Checkers for a great final.”
Rookie of the year went to the Checkers’ Jack Spicer.
Their number eight Liam Elliot received the most improved award, and team All Star went to Kamal Larry.
For the Eagles, Emi Guerra came away with two awards – team All Star, and top point scorer of the league.
He’d netted 369 points over the season, beating his previous record of 297.
An astounding 51 of those points were earned during the final.
The night’s MVP went to the Eagles’ Andrew Arcadio for his all-round performance and composure at both ends of the court.
