There is still a lot of work to be done before the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua face the ACT Brumbies in their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific opener at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium.
This was the view of Drua co-captain Frank Lomani after yesterday’s 33-26 win over the RFC Los Angeles at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Speaking to SUNsports, Lomani reiterated the need for the players to polish their skills.
“The development boys are also putting their hands up as well as a few of them are making it to the big squad,” the veteran halfback said.
“The boys are really out there in terms of skills and knowing the game. We have a few senior players around like Peni Ravai, Mesake Doge and Mesulame Dolokoto who are leading the way.”
Lomani said the development players are able to see the great example that the experienced players have set.
“We just got to get better every day, this sport brings a lot of pressure and also a lot of things that can make us lose focus.
“We just got to play at the highest level of the game.”
Lomani said the main goal for the team is to win Super Rugby Pacific title in the future.
“We want to show the world that this team is not there (Super Rugby) to make numbers,” he said.
“We want the world to watch this team and know that we came here looking for-ward to win so that’s the main goal.”
Lomani said they are gradually building up depth in the team with the goal to win the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
The RFCLA scored first through hooker Ben Sugars in the 4th minute with Christian Lealifano missing the conversion for a 5-0 lead.
The Drua side struck back in the 9th minute with a try to young winger Sikeli Basiyalo in the corner and Caleb Muntz missed the conversion, to settle it 5-5.
RFCLA scored their second try through Argentinean halfback Gonzalo Bertranou in the 15th minute and Lealifano landed the conversion for a 12-5 lead.
Tuidraki Samusamuvodre scored for the Drua in the 24th minute as Muntz added the extras.
Drua scored their third try through Dolokoto in the 35th minute with Muntz making it 19 – 12 before the visitors scored right on halftime to Lucas Bur and Lealifano converted for a 19-19 tie at halftime.
RFCLA took a 26-19 lead from a convert-ed try to Vaughen Issac.
Drua replied with a try to robust flanker Isoa Tuwai in the 54th minute with Isaiah Armstrong Ravula converting for a 26-26 tie.
