Drua Coach to make Positional Changes

Plans are underway for Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players to be constantly trying out new positions, which is part of their development.

This was highlighted by head coach Glen Jackson who said this allows the management to gauge players well especially when one is injured.

“All players will be tried out around the team,” Jackson said.

This includes players like full-back Ilaisa Droasese to be tried out at No. 10 or at centre. He played on the wing for the Queensland Reds before being moved to full-back.

Also, another player is Tuidraki Samusamuvodre who is a specialist first-five eight but has been played on the wing and now centre with the Drua. Young Isoa Tuwai started his career as a centre before being moved to the forwards.

Former Flying Fijians head coach Vern Cotter at one stage had intended to play Simione Kuruvoli at No.10.

“We’ve always thought about it. I think that the beauty of being a Fijian, I suppose, not just Droasese, a lot of them can play in different positions,” he said.

Unfortunately, Droasese has sustained an injury to his wrist and will miss the match against the Crusaders.

“He’d probably be out for quite a few weeks now.

“So at the moment, his position is running water and making sure everyone is looked after hydration-wise,” Jackson said.
