The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is poised to break the NSW Waratahs’ hearts with an upset win in their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash at Churchill Park, Lautoka, today.
Last year, Kemu Valetini snapped a field goal seven minutes into golden-point extra time to snatch a 39-36 win from the Waratahs.
Drua captain Mesulame Dolokoto said Lautoka is their hunting ground, with some memorable wins being recorded there.
“This is because we train in Nadi and we’re used to the weather,” he said yesterday.
“We’ve called the West home, so I guess the boys always try and make a little game and try and bring out the best.
“The Western fans bring out the best in us too.
“We’ve all had support everywhere we go. It doesn’t matter whether we’re in Suva, Lautoka, or overseas.”
Dolokoto added that the match would be tough as always.
“As we know, this year everything is tough. We’ve come to find out from the first round until now. We’re expecting nothing less but a win over the Waratahs tomorrow.”
The 30-year-old reiterated that Drua can still make it to the top six.
“It’s 100 per cent! I believe we can still make it if we turn it around starting from tomorrow. We have an outside chance, but I told the boys, outside chance or a chance is still a chance,” he added.
“We still have a chance to make it to the top six. I told the boys to keep on trying. We are not at the bottom of the table by our own choice or our lack of trying.
“We’ve been trying for the past few games, but it hasn’t come our way. I told the boys not to stop trying, keep on going at it. One day we’ll reap the rewards.
“We’re focused, I guess it’s the beauty of this season, you make some mistakes one week and you try and rectify it the following week. So that’s what we did this week.
Dolokoto said from Monday right to the captain’s run they were still ironing out their mistakes.
“We tried our best to work on those mistakes, but tomorrow, we’ll try and play our game. So, from the word go we’ll be trying our best to start with a good mindset, good attitude, and not be behind the other team in the first few minutes.”
