Controversy in final round one of SIFF Super Futsal League

A controversial moment in the final Round One match of the SIFF Super Futsal League (SSFL) saw both the officials and players of defending champions Mataks FC walked off the court in protest over a referee’s decision during their catch-up match against Salt FC on Saturday.

With both teams level on 19 points in the table, a win would have secured second place heading into the league’s second round, which kicks off on June 14.

The match was tied 2-2 in the 30th minute of the second half when the referee awarded Salt FC a fifth foul.

The decision sparked outrage amongst Mataks FC players and fans, who felt the call was unjust, leading to the dramatic walk-off.

Speaking to Star Sports, league coordinator Jason Oihanua said, the match was canceled to ensure the safety of all involved.

“For the smooth running of the league, we must prevent similar incidents in the future. Regardless of the decisions made by match officials, all players must respect and abide by them. This incident serves as a valuable lesson as we prepare for the second round,” he stated.

Oihanua also confirmed that a report will be submitted to the SSFL Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the appropriate course of action.

Meanwhile, as it stands, Dawn FC tops the table with 22 points, followed by Strides FC with 20. Mataks FC currently holds third place ahead of Salt FC, thanks to a superior goal difference.
