SALOME Likuvo lives alone and takes great pride in maintaining a healthy life through mindful eating habits.
She prioritises her health by carefully choosing what she eats, focusing mainly on vegetables and soups while rarely including meat in her meals.
“I’m not someone that buys meat daily, I always focus on buying veges as it is more healthier and fresher,” she said.
Salome emphasised that this conscious decision in limiting meat intake is part of her way of making wise food choices.
She said most of us get carried away when it comes to grocery shopping and we tend to buy food products that won’t benefit our health.
Since she’s also among the vendors at the Nausori market, and is constantly surrounded by fresh produce, she finds it both enjoyable and beneficial.
“I love buying vegetables from Nausori market because it is cheaper and also we get to buy from the farmers themselves.”
When it comes to grocery shopping, Salome prefers to shop at the newly established PAK N SAVE Supermarket in Nausori.
In a week, she spends about $100 or less on essentials, basic food items such as flour, rice, sugar, tea, potatoes, tinned stuff and other necessities for her household.
She said PAK N SAVE Supermarket also offers easy access to a wide range of food items and household products.
“It is not only cheaper but also very convenient and this is why I shop at PAK N SAVE Supermarket,” she said.
“The prices of items are affordable and convenient for everyone,” she said.
Salome said she finds the variety and availability of options at PAK N SAVE Supermarket helpful in planning and preparing balanced meals.
She said the combination of shopping at the supermarket and sourcing fresh vegetables from the market allows her to maintain a diet that supports her well-being.
Salome believes that healthy living begins with good eating habits.
She stresses the importance of not just eating vegetables but also taking time to plan meals properly to ensure a nutritious and balanced diet.
“A balanced meal involves more than just vegetables; it includes a variety of nutrients from different food groups for health,” she said.
Salome advice to shoppers is to be mindful of what they buy—paying attention to food labels, ingredients, and nutritional value — so they can make informed choices that benefit their health. She also encourages shoppers to embrace healthy eating by prioritising fresh affordable options available at the local markets.
She said buying from these markets was important because they offered an abundance of fresh vegetables, which are essential for a nutritious diet.
“Local markets provide a wide variety of produce that supports a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
“Choosing fresh vegetables from these sources not only enhances meal quality but also supports local farmers,” she said.
