THE Chinese Embassy is continuing to provide crucial assistance to rural communities in the country and the latest recipient is the South New Georgia-Rendova-Tetepari (SNGRT) Constituency in the Western Province.
This latest assistance was handed over on Thursday by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Cai Weiming to the Constituency Development Officer (CDO), Douglas Alex.
The assistance included two sewing machines, 20 portable power sources, 20 radios, 38 solar lights, 100 T-shirts and 100 short pants.
Ambassador Cai Weiming, in his remarks, reiterated the Embassy’s willingness to offer more help within its capacity to more local communities in Solomon Islands.
He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the people of Western Province for what he described as their close cooperation with China.
The ambassador said since the Chinese Fujian Province signed a Sister Relationship Memorandum of Understanding with the Western Province in July this year, the two provinces have discussed areas of cooperation to add more momentum to the development of the Western Province.
He said this includes the offering of more scholarship opportunities for students from Western Province.
Ambassador Cai, who hails from Fujian Province himself, said he is very happy that his province has a very good relationship with the Western Province and on that note, acknowledged the SNGRT Member of Parliament David Gina for his strong support to the China-Solomon Islands diplomatic relations during his term as Premier.
He said China is ready to work with Solomon Islands to further advance friendship and cooperation and bring more benefits to the people of both nations.
In response, CDO Douglas said the gifts are invaluable and symbolize the strong the relationship between Fujian Province and Western Province.
He also took the opportunity to highlight some of the development plans od SNGRT Constituency to Ambassador Cai and the Head of the Political Section in the Chinese Embassy, Gu Wenlong.
CDO Douglas said the Constituency Development Office is looking at building smaller hydro projects across the constituency and thereby highlighted that China has the suitable technology to help implement these projects for the benefit of SNGRT constituents.
He said the SNGRT Constituency will be working closely with the Chinese Embassy in its endeavor to help develop the constituency and bring about tangible benefits to constituents.
