Apia, Samoa – 26 August 2025: There will be changes in the school syllabus and its programmes when schools resume next Monday, 01 September 2025 after a five-week closure due to the dengue fever outbreak.
The changes highlighted by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Aeau Chris Hazelman include no national assessments for Year 4, Year 6 and Year 10.
The Year 8 National Examinations is now scheduled from 3 to 7 November 2025.
Year 12 Samoa School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination is also rescheduled to start from 24 November to 5 December.
There will be no mid-year holidays from 26 September to 14 October except the White Sunday public holiday on Monday 13 October.
For the SSLC exams, Aeau confirmed that students who have already paid fees will be refunded.
The school year ends for Primary schools on Friday 5 December and Secondary schools on 12 December 2025.
It has been 5 weeks since schools closed due to dengue fever that has so far claimed six lives, and the Ministry will continue to work throughout the Christmas holiday period to ensure that SSLC results are released on time for enrolment at the National University of Samoa in 2026.
