Muslim communities around the ACT have been celebrating the feast of Eid al-Adha on Friday.
Around 300 people from the organisation United Muslims of Canberra gathered at the Budawang Theatre, EPIC, on Friday morning for Eid prayers and refreshments.
The group, which has a year-old centre at Mitchell, is a multicultural Muslim body focusing on youth which is aimed at the northside of Canberra.
Known as “The Great Eid” in Middle Eastern countries, Eid al-Adha marks the end of the annual Haj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, as well as story of the prophet Abraham and the near-sacrifice of his son (Ismail, in the Koran).
