EDWARD Cheng, owner of Eland Hardware in Auki, has once again stepped forward to support the Malaita Eagles football team with a generous donation of $2,000 cash.
The financial support is to assist with preparations for the upcoming Solomon Cup tournament in Honiara.
Malaita Eagles assistant coach Danny Belo expressed his gratitude upon receiving the donation, thanking Cheng for his continued support.
“This is the seventh time Mr. Cheng has supported the Malaita Eagles,” Belo said.
“He is a true supporter who not only loves sports but continues to maintain strong ties with the people of Malaita through his consistent backing of our sporting teams.”
Mr. Belo said, the team deeply appreciates Cheng’s ongoing contributions, especially as the team prepares to travel to Honiara for the national tournament.
“Once again, before our departure for the Solomon Cup, Mr. Cheng has stepped in with this timely assistance of $2,000,” he said.
Edward Cheng, who is married to a woman from Malaita, has operated Eland Hardware in Auki for many years and is well-known for his support of local sports and community initiatives in the province.
Meanwhile, after months of intense preparation and training, the final squad has been named along with team officials for this year’s Solomon Cup.
The 24-man squad includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards, each selected based on performance and readiness to represent Malaita at the national level.

The competition will kick off in the coming week in Honiara.
