Bring on Hill: Wright

“I can’t wait to get into the ring to put up a grand show for everyone in Fiji. All preparation and training have been done. It was ten weeks of training camp for me.”

Fiji super welterweight champion Winston ‘Real Deal’ Hill and Melbourne-based super welterweight
boxer Jyl Wright.

Melbourne-based super welterweight boxer Jyl Wright is a survivor and is ready to take on whatever is dished out at him by Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill.

They fight for the vacant IBO (International Boxing Association) Asia Pacific super welterweight title under the South Pacific Boxing Promotions banner at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, tomorrow night.

Wright is rated 12 out of 65 super welterweights in Australia and 178 out of 1971 in the world.

Arriving into the country on Wednesday night, Wright told SUNsports that he knew this fight would be an interesting one.

“The weather has been good here and the people have been very accommodating,” he said.

“I can’t wait to get into the ring to put up a grand show for everyone in Fiji. All preparation and training have been done. It was ten weeks of training camp for me.”

Wright said he has sparred about 130 rounds and is ready for the challenge against Hill.

“A boxing master class really, I can move and roll it on a high performance. Looking forward to Saturday and all I can say is that there will be fireworks,” he said.

Wright was born in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia.

He has eight bouts under his name with six wins, one loss and a draw. SPBP director Mohammed Shameem said everything is going well.

“This is going to be a big fight and I think Wright’s ready for it,” he added.

The boxers will meet face-to-face at 2pm today during the official weigh-in at the Nair’s Dais in Nadi.
