Bower Eyes Fiji Jersey

“Growing up watching the sevens, you definitely want to put on the Fiji jersey, so it definitely has been a dream for me,” he said.

All Blacks and Crusaders prop George Bower.

All Blacks and Crusaders prop George Bower would love to play for Fiji if given the opportunity.

The 32-year-old Vagadaci, Ovalau, Lomaiviti native told SUNSports that it was always a childhood dream.

Bower said their 31-14 win over the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva last Saturday was special.

“Growing up watching the sevens, you definitely want to put on the Fiji jersey, so it definitely has been a dream for me,” he said.

“You never know, things could happen and I could put my hand up for Fiji. Not saying things will happen like that but I’d love to play for Fiji if the opportunity comes.”

Bower has not donned the black jumper the past three years; his last appearance for the All Blacks was in 2022.

His three-year stand-down period expires on November 19.

Bower’s family travelled from Ovalau last Saturday to watch him play in Suva.

“To get the win here was hard. There were times where the Drua were just playing on top and you were like they are coming back,” he said.

“The boys did good to keep the pressure on especially in key moments. I thought our defense worked really well this week to shut out their game.”

Bower said it was an honour to be included in the dynasty of Fijians that have represent ed the renowned Crusaders team.

“Fiji has a special place in the Crusaders hearts is because of the number of Fijians who have played for this club.

“Hence the reason why there are a lot of Crusaders supporters here throughout the years with the likes of Marika Vunibaka, Nemani Nadolo and some of the greats that came out of Fiji.”

Bower indicated he must work on his fitness to prepare for the remaining matches this season.

“Just a little thing personally that I need to get right in terms of defense like ball carries and things like that,” he said.

“Just chipping away at the little skillset knowing that one per cent will add up.”
