Ansaara Bibi, a vibrant young woman, is a diligent and determined individual poised to make a positive impact in the legal field and beyond.
The 22-year-old, a final year student of Suva lives with her parents and younger sister.
Her father hails from Nadi and her mother from Labasa.
Ms Bibi said her initial career choice through the years was in the medical field and specialising in human pathology.
“Throughout my academic journey, the notion of studying law never crossed my mind, primarily due to my lack of interest in history,” she said.
“It wasn’t until Year 12 that the idea of pursuing law even entered my consideration.
“This unexpected revelation opened up a new path for me, igniting a passion for law and its profound impact on society.”
As the eldest in her family, she soon harboured a keen interest in her father’s trade business, recognising its potential for expansion and growth.
“However, cognizant of the need for a backup plan to bolster my career aspirations, I turned to the field of law for its inherent complexity in addressing issues.
“I embarked on a journey of professional development aimed at blending business with legal proficiency.
“This deliberate strategy empowered me to confidently pursue my career goals while safeguarding the legacy of my family’s business for future generations.”
One of the main driving forces behind Ms Bibi’s career choice, was to assist and support others — a conviction deeply rooted in her religious beliefs.
“I am drawn to the legal profession for its inherent diversity, offering a myriad of opportunities for professional growth and development, I strive to empower individuals and communities with the tools they need to navigate legal complexities and safeguard their rights effectively.”
Ms Bibi is currently studying at USP with a keen interest in specialising in criminal law.
“I aspire to specialise in criminal law with a keen focus on serving within the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“I aim to explore opportunities within private firms renowned for their commitment to justice and integrity.
“I am steadfast in my pursuit of excellence and ethical practice as I chart my path towards a fulfilling career in law.”
Besides studying law, Ms Bibi currently holds a position within her father’s business which she believes is a role that aligns with her aspirations for a dual career in both business and law.
“This opportunity allows me to gain first-hand experience in managing and operating a successful enterprise while pursuing my legal education and professional goals.
“By balancing my responsibilities between work and academia, I am able to cultivate a diverse skill set and broaden my understanding of both fields.
“Moreover, working within the family business provides a sense of continuity and connection to my roots, fostering a deeper appreciation for entrepreneurship and business management.”
Besides the challenges that come with striving for success, she has made some achievements in her career.
“One of my notable achievements was securing an opportunity to work within a law firm, an experience that provided invaluable insights into various facets of the legal profession.
“Amidst the demands of balancing work commitments with academic pursuits — I encountered challenges.
“However, through time management and dedication, I successfully navigated this dual commitment with proficiency.
In the next five years, Ms Bibi to envisions herself as an entrepreneur.
“Maybe even having a casual chat over black coffee with Joe Biden at the White House, but that’s just a fun thought! Seriously though, I see myself excelling as both a skilled criminal and family lawyer.
“With time and the right guidance, I am confident I can achieve these goals. It’s all about working hard and staying focused on what I want to accomplish.
“I believe in my abilities and am determined to make my dreams a reality. With dedication and support, I know I can build a successful career in law and business.”
One piece of advice she would give to someone planning on studying law is that if you’ve got the passion and drive, don’t hesitate, dive into the field of law.
